In 1950, Mathematician and logician, Alan Turing devised the Turing Test, a test on the ability of machines to show human-like intelligence. In 1955, Computer scientist, John McCarthy coined the term "artificial intelligence". In 1972, Shakey, the first mobile robot able to make decisions according to reason, was completed. In 2001, The Electrolux Trilobite, the first robotic vacuum cleaner designed for home use, went on sale. In 2015, AlphaGo became the first computer program to beat a human professional Go player. In 2017, AlphaGo Zero beat the previous version of AlphaGo by 100 games to nil.

In 2021, OpenAI launched CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining) and DALL・E, which are significant large-scale multimodal models that further expanded the application of artificial intelligence in the multimodal field.

On January 27, 2025, DeepSeek's intelligent assistant surpassed ChatGPT on the US Apple App Store download chart and topped the App Store's free apps list.
